Tyler Green at MAN gives a tour of some of the better NYC Alt spaces here. This post is of particular interest to me because The Office really is an alternative space, not your typical white box. It's good to see alternative spaces get some exposure.  ...

On Sunday January 30th (after you have spent all weekend at artLA) Pacific Drift, the new radio program on 89.3 KPCC that covers art and culture in Southern California, will be hosting a launch party at The Mountain Bar in Chinatown. I bring this up because on the first segment Adam Bryam and George Russell, who were responsible for the Ulteriora show at The Office back in November, will be taking Pacific Drift along as they explore and document an abandoned hospital in Downey. Party Details: Sunday,...

Via iconoduel it's Whitney submission time and he thinks the OC should represent. Details Here:I would love it if artbloggers across the country cut and pasted this information onto their own blogs and we can send the curators a message that we want to see more than simply a reflection of the Chelsea market. E-mail the information to your artist friends! Post it at your local art center! Submission is free, you'll get a cool rejection letter, and who knows - maybe someone will actually...

Finally the sun has returned to So. Cal. so the wife and I decided to venture out to Chinatown on Saturday night to catch Naida Osline's show at Acuna-Hansen. I found out they were having a 2nd opening in conjunction with many of the other galleries that were opening their first shows of 2005 including Jack Hanley's new LA space. Naida's show looked great, reminding me more of paintings than photographs. This new series is her strongest yet so I had to pick up...

I have to say I was surprised that we actually had people show up to the opening on Saturday night with all the rain and lots of other openings going on that night. We surprisingly had a good crowd. Commie Girl was there with Suparna the Rocket Scientist and her very nice family. Paul Frank drew a crowd of course. I heard the show was mentioned on his site but I haven't looked. Carrie Yury fresh off her gig singing for Mads Lynnerup's...

Because The Office will be participating in artLA in January 2005 I have been allotted a few VIP passes to the big event. In thanks to my loyal blog readers I would like to give one away. Here's the catch; The first loyal reader who lives in Orange County (it's an OC based blog...

Well here's my Top Ten for 2004 in no particular order. As you can see I did a little traveling this year. These aren't easy to put together: 1. Orange County Museum of Art. We snatched Dennis Szakacs from the New Museum and it's been all uphill from there. They finished the remodel of the main building and opened the new media satellite the Orange Lounge in South Coast plaza and have a great line up of shows planned. National/International recognition is not far behind. 2. Francis...

For those interested Walter Robinson breaks down Scope Miami here. As I understand it Scope is not coming back to LA so that makes artLA in January the only new/contemporary game in town. So be sure to come out and support it. ...

For a thorough wrap up of the happenings at Art Basel Miami Beach check out Tyler Green's latest here. So what does Miami have that Orange County doesn't?? Couldn't a successful contemporary art fair be held here, near our beautiful beaches and resorts?? Away from all the major art centers?? Hmmmm...

After a very nice lunch at the Gypsy Den in the Santa Ana Artists Village today I was able to catch Joe Diebes video installation at Grand Central. It's a combination of video and audio that is described as: In Joe Diebes' latest music driven installation work the audience is invited to wander through a labyrinthine arrangement of video projections that document the everyday behavior of the urban human specimen.  At rest:  people with blank stares standing on street corners, people smoking cigarettes outside of...

Because I'm a big fan and because I know a family member they send me free copies. I have to let everybody know about a can't miss event in North Orange County, otherwise known as Long Beach (hey...

Scribble Theory Gallery will be hosting their Holiday Spectacular Show this Saturday night in conjunction with the Santa Ana art walk. All the information can be found here. I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities to pick up many art gifts for your friendly local neighborhood blogger. ...

Wanted to let everybody know that The Office will be participating in artLA in Jan. 2005. Confirmed exhibitors and participating museums can be found here. I've been to a few Photo LA's and San Francisco's and Stephen Cohen has always done a very nice job in my opinion so I really think the new LA art fair is in the right hands. It also won't hurt that it's at the Santa Monica Civic where it will be easy to find and there will be plenty of...

Because I know everybody will be hitting the malls this week to get an early jump on the x-mas shopping. I thought it would be wise to remind everybody that if they do their shopping over at South Coast Plaza they can mix in an Art Break while picking something up for Junior. OCMA's new media satellite space is now open and showing four video, sound and new media artists who are included in the California Biennial. Details can be found here. In my opinion (i never...
