Artforum is my Playboy, except I read it for the ads. But this last week I got around to reading Peter Plagens' article on the "postartist" and the state of criticism in this month's Artforum and it really got me thinking. I was planning a long post but since I'm not the best at this, I'll try and keep it short. Plagens quotes Donald Kuspit's The End of Art where he said "Postmodern artists are caricatures of artists, disillusioned about art they still have illusions about...

Interesting article in the L.A. Times this morning. It seems that Laura Zucker is starting a new non-profit funded by the Broad Foundation called Arts + Culture LA. The mission of this new group will be to promote LA internationally and domestically as an outstanding arts destination. There was an Eli Broad sighting at artLA so maybe this new group will get on the bus and actually attempt to bring art buyers to LA. More to follow I'm sure. She does believe technology will play a...

Ran up to Photo LA today to take a quick peek. Lot's of good stuff but man was it packed. I'm glad that artLA is going to be a little more spread out and I'm hopeful that as many people attend. Anyway, all the big names were there but my personal favorite was Michael Garlington's wall (pictured) over at Stephen Cohen's booth. I have known of his work for about 3 or 4 years now and I didn't know that Cohen had picked him up....

As an answer to From the Floor's slight jab at LA. This is really why NYC trumps LA as the global art center. Man...

Lots of talk around the blogsphere about the battle between NYC and LA. and the shenanigans of some of the art worlds major players. All this talk brings to mind a very good quote I read recently by artist George Shaw. When asked what is "the art world?" He responded: "I don't know what it is, but I can tell you that the best thing about it is art. Art is what the art world leaves behind once all the characters have fucked off, passed away, gone out...
