Musings

OCCCA needs your help. They're in a need of a new sound system for their free monthly film and music series. They estimate the cost to be about 3K and they are already half way there. No donation is too small so just head on over to Chip In and do your part. ...

My personal soundtrack for 2007 began with this: And ended with this: Happy New Year! ...

There's not much going on in the ole art world currently so I will be signing off until after the new year. I would like to say thank you to the people that are regular or semi-regular readers of the blog and wish you a very prosperous and enjoyable new year. Big announcement coming in early January so please come on back after the new year. Peace. ...

Miami is over. The reports I've received is the sales were pretty sluggish in and around the many satellite fairs. We're cruising into the Holidays and you can already tell that the art world is about to take a break. If you have to get your art fix this weekend in OC the only thing I'm aware of currently is the closing party for the exhibition Subset at Crussell Fine Arts. Watch out for the shopping crowds and keep it safe out there. I on...

For those interested I started a new blog that will be more of whatever I feel like. Enjoy. ...

I have to say that this year the blogosphere has really been quiet when it comes to this years ABMB. Is this a sign?? Anyway, one blogger that did make the rounds and has a bunch of photos to share is Paddy Johnson over at AFC. It's never a dull moment over at AFC so enjoy. Update: Scene & Herd has a bunch of photos. ...

I started The Office in 2003 to give a voice to OC based contemporary artists who I thought needed to be seen. While I ran the space I'd interface with many artists and curators. I'd often hear horror stories about primadonna artists and their crazy demands etc. Quite honestly my experience as whole was very positive but one particular artist stands out. Her name is Jenna Gallemore. I met Jenna when she was 16 and I knew then she had talent. She was, even...

As a Xmas shopping public service announcement. I want to let everybody know that my good friend Wendi of Wendi Grant Jewelry Designs is having a trunk show tomorrow (Tues.) at Sydney Michelle on Balboa Island. She will be in store from 4-9pm and you'll be able to get some great stuff for whoever might be on your shopping list. Tell her Chris sent you and I'm sure that will get you zilch. ...

I'm in a poetry mood. For all of you about to face your particular family situation during the holidays. I offer this one by Thomas Smith: Housewarming In my dream I'm the first to arrive at the old home from church. Wind and night had forced through the cracks, I pushed inside, turned on lamps, lit a fire in the stove. Frozen oak logs stung my fingers; it was good pain, my hands reddening on the icy broom-handle as i swept away snow. On Christmas Eve, I prepared a warm place for my mother and father,...

Haven't posted a poem in a while so here you go. A favorite by former OC'er Derrick Brown: ARMSTRONG  The night the moon cracked open A voice came from within. The moon turned to the astronaut and said to him 'Please stay. Please stay' The astronaut looked back at the moon Said "I'd love to stay but I can't stay with you I am sorry to report that I must leave For when I'm here with you I cannot breathe" ...

I don't normally post music stuff but I have been listening to the new Feist album non-stop since Chloe Flores turned me on to it while installing the final show at The Office. I thought I'd share. Enjoy: ...

Thought I'd let you all know about some additions to the blogroll. In the OC related sites please welcome: Suzanne from Emphasis Mine. It's seems Suzanne and I grew up in the same general area/era judging by this post and this post over at OCthen. I'd also like to welcome my friend James' blog Tri'phop Universe. He is younger and has much more energy then me so enjoy his frequent and informative posts on all things art & culture. I'd also like to welcome Greer's OC to the site....

I'm back from the great white north. I hope everybody had a nice holiday. I sure did. Here's a few pics from the trip and some of the highlights. Regular posting should resume shortly. The Vancouver Dance Biennial was going on while we were in town and we had the opportunity to catch a couple of performances. Amazing. The Vancouver Art Gallery was showing a Georgia O'Keeffe retrospective along with a couple of other very solid shows. We were very impressed with the space. Whistler...

I'm headed up to Vancouver for a few days to hang out and do some art viewing then off to Whistler for some early season skiing. No posting till after the holiday. Happy Thanksgiving everybody and I'm thankful you read this blog. Keep it safe out there. ...

Hey. I just realized that this blog is 3 years old. Wow. I need a life. ...

Although there's been a demise of a couple galleries here in OC the cycle of life continues with an opening of a new space. 98ten Fine Art is located in Irvine and their first show is up and running and is titled Abstraction & Landscape. It looks like there is some Carl Berg connection since the first show seems to be most of his artists. Get out there and support the new space! ...

Sorry for the lack of posts recently. I ran away to Santa Fe to meditate for a few days. Highly recommended. Anyway, while there I did get a quick chance to see the current show at Site Santa Fe The Disappeared. Wow. I'm not sure if it was the heightened senses from several days of meditation or what, but this show was powerful. It's the first show I can recall seeing in a white cube where they had Kleenex out for the visitors. So get...
