The OC Art Blog was created in 2004 as a way to build community and promote the marginalized but dynamic Orange County art scene.

For those of you interested in the inner workings of the art world. Take a look. ...

Finally the sun has returned to So. Cal. so the wife and I decided to venture out to Chinatown on Saturday night to catch Naida Osline's show at Acuna-Hansen. I found out they were having a 2nd opening in conjunction with many of the other galleries that were opening their first shows of 2005 including Jack Hanley's new LA space. Naida's show looked great, reminding me more of paintings than photographs. This new series is her strongest yet so I had to pick up...

He responded: "I don't know what it is, but I can tell you that the best thing about it is art. Art is what the art world leaves behind once all the characters have fucked off, passed away, gone out...

I have to say I was surprised that we actually had people show up to the opening on Saturday night with all the rain and lots of other openings going on that night. We surprisingly had a good crowd. Commie Girl was there with Suparna the Rocket Scientist and her very nice family. Paul Frank drew a crowd of course. I heard the show was mentioned on his site but I haven't looked. Carrie Yury fresh off her gig singing for Mads Lynnerup's...

On his blog Brian Sholis raises a couple of good questions. I understand the need to make thought accessible, but a balance can be struck between potentially revelatory insight and rote description (which, I know, can offer revelatory insights of its own). I don't think of myself as a particularly intellectual critic—more like a fairly smart guy who casts his net wide enough to see and read more than the average art viewer (or, based on conversations I've had with others in the profession, even the...

Sorry about the non-art related post but this is important news. Paul Westerberg is coming to to town and I had to share the good news. He'll be in LA & OC in Feb. and more info can be found here. I'll be at the House of Mouse show in Anaheim. Hope to see you there. ...
