I was able to escape some meetings yesterday and make my way over to the Dallas Museum of Art and the Nasher Sculpture Center. The Dallas Museum was showing the Robert Smithson retrospective that had just left LA and it was good to see it in Dallas. Call me crazy but as I was walking through this show I kept thinking of the Dieter Roth retro that MOMA showed last year. They both tackle entropy and decay and they both had that mad scientist thing going....

I'm in Dallas but will be trying to post periodically. When we were in Paris late last year we caught a show at a new contemporary art space called the La Maison Rouge where they had rebuilt collectors living rooms, bedrooms ,and bathrooms and re-hung their collections just as they had them at home. It was a great exhibit, you should see some of the great art work people hang in their bathrooms. Anyway, this weekend is an opening I will definitely be attending. The Laguna Art...

It's been awhile since I had to be in a courthouse but now I think I got a legitimate reason to go back...

Unfortunately I didn't make it to The OsCene, something about getting stuck in San Diego, so I don't have any pictures but I did have a chance to run by the Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana and was able to see two very good shows. If you get a chance be sure to get over to GCAC and see the Rosemary Covey and Kit Kube shows currently running. Rosemary Covey is showing a series of wood engraving/printmaking light boxes that are great and...

Artforum is my Playboy, except I read it for the ads. But this last week I got around to reading Peter Plagens' article on the "postartist" and the state of criticism in this month's Artforum and it really got me thinking. I was planning a long post but since I'm not the best at this, I'll try and keep it short. Plagens quotes Donald Kuspit's The End of Art where he said "Postmodern artists are caricatures of artists, disillusioned about art they still have illusions about...

I'm happy to report that Tony de los Reyes, husband of one of the nicer gallery owners I know, was chosen as a critic's pick over at Artforum. Check it out. ...

I just got my Kim McCarty watercolor back from the framers and thought I would share it with you. I first discovered Kim's work at the International Paper show at The Hammer, which I feel was the first of their current run of great shows. Most recently she was featured in Art on Paper magazine's take on new contemporary watercolor. Kim McCarty is represented by cherrydelosreyes in LA and Briggs Robinson Gallery in NYC.
