Collecting BULL.MILETIC

Gymnopedies You don’t hear too much these days about the collecting of video works so I thought I would highlight a video work in my collection and the artists responsible….Because New Media artists need our support too.

The first video work I added to my collection was a piece called Gymnopedies by the collaborative team BULL.MILETIC. BULL.MILETIC consists of Synne Bull (Norway) and Dragan Miletic (Serbia & Montenegro) who met while art students in San Francisco. They currently split their time between SF and Oslo.

I discovered their work on a trip to San Francisco and liked it so much I asked them if I could recreate the video installation to open the first show at The Office. It was quite the hit.

Details on the piece I own follow:

This installation is comprised of a video projection and a variable number of straw bales. In the video, the well-known musical triptych Trois Gymnopédies by Erik Satie is used as the backdrop for the American rodeo. By weaving the slow motion imagery with the meditative piano music, the rodeo becomes a gracious dance with the monumental characters. The three subtle musical variations highlight three different categories within the competition. With straw bales as scented seats, the stage is set for a "cowboys’s ballet" performance framed in the old fashion Western trade cards designs.
