We all know that the art market is the least regulated commercial market out there. There are many corporate executives doing time for stuff (insider trading) that happens everyday in the art world. But it seems there are some voices out there lately that are starting to pull some covers and it's nice to see. This morning Tyler Green over at MAN calls into question local critic Edward Goldman's motives and recently Jen Graves in Seattle Called out a local critic for trading art...

First off I had the pleasure of attending the wedding of friend and curator Jacqueline Bunge this weekend. It was a beautiful event and she was a beautiful bride. Congrats Jackie & Nathan! It seems there is a new alternative space to show your work in OC. I would like to welcome another OC based arts related blog to the blogroll. You might want to re-think that curatorial career. It seems now that the hot career in the museum world is the increasingly high profile position of party planner. The LA Times did a piece on MOCA's party planner extraodanaire Vanessa Gonzalez today. And OCMA's resident party girl Ashley Eckenweiler has been getting a lot of attention lately. It'll be interesting to watch how this develops. Museums trying to out party each other. Should be fun! UPDATE: Where Most Needed documents how these MOCA parties brought in over...

Thought I'd let you all know about an interesting new site that's geared toward artists. I recently discovered Uber a social platform site geared toward the artistically inclined, primarily bands and visual artists. I also understand this site is the brainchild of 2004 Whitney Biennial artist and LA local Glenn Kaino. I think its a great idea to have a site where artists can store and share their personal media...

Last week Will Swaim editor of the OC Weekly since it's inception in 1995 resigned and now I just discovered that Rebecca Schoenkopf aka Commie Girl has resigned effective immediately. This is quite a blow to the local art community. Say what you will about the Weekly, they were the only local paper that consistently visited and wrote about local art exhibits (on a weekly basis). I'm especially bummed because the Weekly, via Rebecca has always shown support (even when she didn't like the...

Orange County's top live music venue otherwise known as OCMA will be showing some good art over the next couple of weeks. On Jan. 28th a Chuck Close Prints show opens. Also on Feb 3rd OCMA will pull out Chris Burden's A Tale of Two Cities so we can all have another look. I think you should all go and give them some positive reinforcement for showing some art without a band in the next room. (although I understand you have to do what you have...

After Chinatown we ran down to the Torrance Art Museum to catch Carol Es before her opening closed. All three shows at the museum were good and it was nice to spend some time with Carol bagging on the art world. Some really bad photos follow (sorry Carol): part of wall installation MJP & Carol the FS boys with Carl Berg TAM ...

Unfortunately we are losing another art venue here in Orange County. It looks like SolArt Gallery & Cafe lost their lease and will be shutting down. Their 3 year anniversary/Final show will be Jan 27th. Go show your support. ...
