On Saturday Mrs. OCArtBlog and myself ran down to Laguna to catch the Godfather of appropration art Richard Pettibone's show at LAM. We then headed over to the Godfather of the local scene's gallery and also attempted to say hi to  Sue Greenwood but neither Sue or Peter were working on this sunny Saturday. Then we headed over to OCMA to catch Landscape Confection without the opening night crowds. There is one painting there by Michael Raedecker that's worth the trip alone. But the rest...

Just in case you haven't had enough of me yet. Elizabeth Glazner came over to interview me for the HB Independent this week. Enjoy. Photo: Kent Treptow ...

I'm dead sick so I thought I'd choose a photo that cheered me up. This is my God-daughter's b-day/tea party from a year ago. She's in the center. Kinda reminded me of Mark, David and Maw's hats on Sat. night. ...

The interviews of Mark Dutcher and myself are up over at Drawn to Scale. How did we do? ...

Hey! There's an actual art critique in the LA Times. Nice job Pagel. Nice to see someone not gushing over everything MOCA does. Haendel's what, 29?? Couldn't find anyone more deserving of the space. I have a list if you need one. Nothing against youth but we have some seriously good "mid-career" artists in the area that deserve exposure. ...

Forget all the Getty hoopla. This is the real crisis in the Museum world. Go HB! ...

For this week's Photo of the Day I'd thought I'd share with you all Mrs. OC Art Blog's and my new ride. Ladies and Gentlemen I introduce to you the "Phat Limo". Yes, we are now ready for many summer beach rides. First ride will kick off tomorrow. Wish us luck. ...

I don't know how many readers of this blog have subscriptions to magazines directed at Buddhists (slow news day) but has anybody else noticed how Buddhist mag's have been kicking up the art lately?? This month's Tricycle has the Starn Twin's on the cover and old YBA'er Gary Hume inside and this Winter's Buddhadharma has both Nam June Paik and Hiroshi Sugimoto. Thought I'd point that out in case you were tired of the regular mag's and wanted some great art and the opportunity...

Yeah I know it's a Hallmark Holiday but I would like to wish Mrs. OCArtBlog a very special day and I would like to wish all you loyal readers a happy one too. All we need is love...

Damn I'm tired. Mark Dutcher and David Ross came down from LA for a Saturday night tour of the OC art scene and to meet up with their friend Sandow Birk. We ran all over the place and had a great time. I think they were impressed with the level of activity down here. Nice job people. Anyway here are some photos: First stop was the Shed to catch Jocelyn Schneider Foye's performance, Wrestling with Clay. It was a good time. OC Weekly writer Rebecca...

This Saturday I'm headed out to Pomona to drop off some work for a show I'm going to be in that opens next weekend. (more about that later) While I'm out there on the way back I think I'm going to have to hit this show at the California Museum of Photography. There will be photo work by none other than Henry Darger in this show. Looks like a must see. Thanks for the heads-up Mark. ...

Staying on the Surf Art theme here is a great article on the surging surf art market. They even quote Pat Tobin and Laguna Art Museum Director Bolton Colburn. Also featured is one of the hotter galleries in OC right now, the Surf Gallery. Thanks Marc. Image: John Severson ...

I was just notified that legendary early big wave rider and local artist Pat Tobin has passed away. There will be a Potluck and traditional paddle out at Doheny State Beach on Friday of this week starting at 1pm. All the details can be found on Gallery McCollum's website. ...
